Of all the hours of an event, there are two minutes when everyone stands and every phone goes up: the bride's entrance. Yet the entrance is usually designed with whatever is left after the kosha. This guide is about the priorities in those two minutes.
Measure the walkway in steps, not metres
Too short and the moment ends before people turn. Too long and it becomes an awkward walk under a silent stare. The range we see work is eight to twelve metres — ten to fifteen slow steps.
Measure the width too. A dress with a train needs at least two metres so it does not catch on the decoration, and so whoever carries it can walk behind without appearing in every photograph.
Light the face, not the floor
The most common entrance mistake: beautiful light on the floor and the decoration, and the bride's face in shadow. Floor lights create atmosphere but they do not light a face.
Ask for a warm front light that follows her as she walks, however simple. And if there is a strong light at the end of the walkway aimed at the guests, every entrance photograph will have a black silhouette where the faces should be.
The floor is a practical decision first
A glossy walkway reflects light beautifully in photographs and becomes slippery in high heels. Thick carpet looks luxurious and catches thin heels.
Test the floor with the shoes that will actually be worn. If the walkway is raised, make sure its edge is visible — an unclear step in dim light is a real hazard.
Design the entrance with the kosha, not after it
The entrance, the walkway and the kosha appear in the same photograph. Designing them separately gives three visual languages in one frame. Shared colour, material and height is what makes a hall look designed rather than assembled.
The practical rule: pick one element that repeats — a colour, a flower, an arch shape — and let it appear in all three at different scales.
Agree the choreography beforehand
Who opens the door? When does the music start? Who carries the train? Where does the photographer stand? Do the hall lights dim during the entrance or stay up? Those five questions take ten minutes to settle and ruin the moment entirely if left to improvisation.
